I have a sony digital camcorder which has USB, Firewire and svideo out. So far I have tried the USB to pc transfer and have not been satisfied with the quality. i know usb is only up to 10mbs a sec. Svideo is perfect quality when transfered to pc but the setup is difficult. I still need to try firewire and I want to know if firewire will provide the best quality over svideo? Also I have a Sounblaster card with a firewire port and since it is PCI will their be a bottle neck in transfer or will I get up to 400 mbs with it firewire?
Also what is good video software, I plan to use principle studio, is it good or which is best!
thanks,
ty

Firewire transference from video camera is the best quality, period.
Speed of transfer... I am a little confused here, you play the tape/disk to a firewire capture prog to edit it, unless you are talking about the memory stick stuff?

We just did a large video editing project for this company and the firewire is the only way to go...unfortunately u are gonna transfer at realtime but u end up with a 720x480 perfectly clear video with good sound! We use adobe premire and it took a little time to play with it since it was the first time using a camera :) but keep in mind if you are going to be dumping more than 2gb of video on to the hard drive, u need to be running ntfs or the capture wont happen...we spent a long time scratching our heads on that one :) Let me know how it goes!

Yep firewire is the way to go. It (like was mentioned earlier) is played in realtime and at full bandwith and will probably (if you copy raw data from the camera) will be a very VERY large *.dv file (or something to that extent). Adobe Premiere is the way to go unless you already have a video editing software you use.
