What would be good currently available AGP card for an Asus P5A?

I don't recall any compatibility isues with that motherboard and the current crop of available cards, so I think you're barking up the wrong tree thought process wise.

Rather than having your motherboard dictate your choice in a video adapter, your computing habits and budget should instead.

How much can you afford to spend? Are you a hardcore or casual gamer? Are you into digital video? Do you own an LCD or a CRT?

Answer those questions and it will be much easier for us to point you to a card that is best suited to your needs.

I just took a quick look at the asus website. It seems that once upon a time there were significant compatibility issues with this motherboard and several AGP cards, but those have been fixed with subsequent BIOS/AGP driver updates (so make sure you download and install them before you install your new card).

Also keep in mind that your AGP is only 2X so there's no need to spend a fortune on an 8X board.

Your second post in in this thread is getting closer to the intention of my question.

I am not going to put an AGP Pro format card in this board. This leaves a somewhat reduced selection of 4/2x or 2x AGP cards, most of which are now, if affordable, only available in OEM packaging and are often of dubious manufacture and performance.

So what I am wondering here is if anyone has any recommendations for a relatively inexpensive 32Mb card here.

Gotcha, but I don't think your choices are as limited as you seem to think.

Again, it would help to know exactly what you need the card to do before coming up with any recommendations.

Also, is there a reason you're looking for a 32MB card? A 64MB card is going to give you much better performance for very little additional cost.

Anyway, if you're not stuck on 32MB take a look at this (http://www.directron.com/ati8500.html). That's a lot of card for 72 bucks and it should work great with your Asus board.

32 Meg TNT2 cards are dirt cheap and work ok. I would suggest at least a G Force 2 MX with 64 meg or better, or a G Force 4 MX, if you can afford it.
