Hello everyone!

I am trying to get MSN Messenger to work through my Linksys firewall router(NAT). I can surf the net in IE and send chat messages in MSN, but when I try the voice or video chat feature in MSN. I get a message that says "LAN cable dissconnected". I am running Win XP pro Sp1. I have just updated my MSN to 5.0, i think that is it, and still I can not get through the router. When it tries to connect it will say the network cable unplugged and then crash my MSN messenger. Any insight would be appreciated.

I have looked at the linksys site and tried their fix which was to open certain ports in the "forwarding" section of my router, but still it had no effect....please advise..

Thanks,
Nuce

Make yourself DMZ to see IF it is even your router at fault.
If your using XP make sure the built-in firewall is disabled.
Update your linksys firmware.

Dont use Messenger :D

Update: You may need to refresh your DHCP clients table on the Linksys. Mine needs it once in a blue moon.

MS Knowledge Base Article: 324214 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324214)

Not sure if this will help out at all, although it does mention Linksys Routers specifically..

Good Luck

I have seen this with other routers before. My problem was that the DSL service (verizon) had switched to using PPPOE. Once I enabled that, setup the username and password, it took right off.

The cable disconnected thing is what got me. I made three cables thinking that was the issue. I was about to rewire the walljack when I broke down and called Verizon.
