I have a HP Vectra VE 7MT, P266, w/ 64MB ram. Whenever _any_ program is run (word, excel, winzip, right click in explorer) the A: drive is accessed, and then the program runs fine. Anyone ever heard of this problem, and if so, anyone have a fix? Thanks.

Snowman,
Along with moving findfast out of the start up group, clear the documents from the start menu. If you save anything to your floppy or run something from floppy it will stay in the documents and the pc will attempt to access the drive. Clear the documents after each use.

Might also be a .WAV file starting at startup of program.
Check the control panel and sounds?

And, another possibility I discovered last week after pulling out a lot of hair...
Check all the links in your Start Menu. If any are pointing to programs on the floppy drive, it may be trying to find them. Unless you absolutely need to run the program from diskette, either remove the link or load the program onto the hard drive and route the link to the new location.
This caused the floppy drive to be accessed every time the user logged in or the desktop was refreshed, as Windows checked all of the links in the Start menu.
And, Microsoft TechNet mentions that if any of your file extensions have Actions associated with programs on the floppy drive, you can have the same problem. Open My Computer, click on View, Options, File Types, and then click on each type. If the floppy drive is accessed after clicking on any extension, check the Actions for that extension - remove the extension or edit the Action that is causing the problem.
