I just bought a V9280/td graphics card and cannot get it to work. If I leave it set to standard VGA compatible it works at all resolutions but after I install the drivers (both Nvidia and Asus' latest drivers) and reboot I have no picture on the display.When I have a display the display properties show vgasave for display adapter. My system is GA-7DX gigabyte motherboard.. AMD Athlon XP 1800+ .. 512 MB RAM .. running Windows XP. I was previously using a Asus V7100 geforce 2 with no problems at all. thanks for any help, Steve
p.s. I tried the card in a different computer and it worked fine and I have even reinstalled the OS and also tried it with Windows 98

First thing I would do (assuming you haven't already), is update the BIOS on your motherboard to the latest version.

You can do so here (http://tw.giga-byte.com/support/swamd_old.htm#link7dx).

There have been quite a few BIOS updates for your motherboard, unfortunately it doesn't specifically say what most of them fixed. However it's definitely not unusual for there to be compatibility issues between certain motherboards and video adapters, so that's a good place to start.

Thanks for replying but that was one of the first things I tried, Steve

If you've verified your new video card as good on another PC then I think it's pretty obvious you've got some kind of compatibility issue between your video adapter and your motherboard. I was looking at the on-line manual for your motherboard and there are quite a few AGP settings in your BIOS you can tweak. Have you tried that at all?

Of course you'll want to make sure that the AGP mode is set to 4X. But you might also try disabling AGP Fast Write and AGP Always Compensate (to be honest I'm not sure what they do as the manual doesn't say, but it's worth a shot).

Failing that you may have to start thinking about exchanging your new card for a different make/model.

seems to me like you are experiencing a video card/monitor problem....are you running a svga monitor that can handle 1024/768 and is your refresh rate @ 60 hz.....

I am having similar problems with a GeForce 4 board on a Biostar M7MIA motherboard with a 1GHz Athlon Processor. I believe both the GA-7DX+ and the M7MIA use the AMD 761 chipset. I have not been able to find any information regarding conflicts between this chipset and the video card.

The card will not even bring up a post screen on the Athlon machine, but works fine on a PIII-450MHz.

Any ideas?

My Friend You Can Start The Computer With The Universal Driver And You Cannot With The Minidriver .
When You Install The Minidriver For Your Device :
1- Is The Power Green Led Of The Monitor ( ON )
2-Any Beeps While The Post ?
POST = Power On Self Test
3-If There's Any Built-In Display Adapter Disable It

Read The Manual Book For The System Board
And The Display Adapter

1-2= Plug The Device Correctly And Turne The Computer On
Verify The Green Power Led Of The Monitor
ON = Working Properly
OFF= Monitor Problems / AGP Problems / Conflicts /
Compatibilities = Read The Manual Book
3 = Disable The Built-In Display Chips Coz It Might Cose A
Conflict
4 = BIOS Update - Latest Driver For The Device
5 = Is The Device Compatible With Your OS
6 = Is There Any Jumpers On The AGP ?
7 = Any Jumpers For The AGP Slot On-Board ?
8 = Contact The AMD Costumer Support For More

1. No LED On the monitor (thus the computer has no video at post)
2. Bios updated to the latest version for the motherboard
3. OS Video drivers don't matter at the moment (since I'm not able to even see the post screen)
4. No built in display on either the GA-7DX+ or the M7MIA
5. No jumpers on the AGP card

Any one have any other suggestions?
