I have a Compaq presario 4716 and I've been trying to add a 2nd hard drive(Maxtor 8.4 gig). I can't for the life of me get this cmos to acknowledge the full capacity of the Maxtor hard drive. I have win98 upgrade installed on my computer and I created a Win98 boot disk to try to fdisk and format.
I only see 2.110gigs available on this hard drive. I've tried compaq's message boards with no luck. Can anyone help me??
Thanks

Either use EZ Bios or get drive overlay software from the western digital web site.

mzcpu is right - your computer's BIOS is not recognizing the Maxtor's geometry so you need to install an overlay to take care of the problem.
I just recently had to install an 8.4 GB Maxtor and had to use an overlay. I used the disk that came with the drive and it did all the work for me. Not only did it partition and format the drive, it also saw that there was an operating system on the older drive in the system and it asked me if I wanted to copy the old drive to the new drive. I said yes and it worked perfectly. I didn't have to mess with doing an xcopy from Win95. VERY slick!
