The scanner uses a USB connection and was working fine under Windows 2000. After I upgraded my OS to Windows XP it stopped working. I uninstalled the device & software and reinstalled the updated PrecisionScan Pro software and a patch that I downloaded from HP web site. The scanner is listed under Other Devices (with a yellow question mark). Attempts to update the driver fail. Windows is asking for a path to the device driver (.inf) but there is no device information anywhere in the sj630 and sj673 folders created by HP software. Your help would be appreciated.

Is the software that you downloaded a 45 mb file located here? (http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareList.jhtml;jsessionid=HY0NLNYAXFG0BQEXGR3U OSQ?reg=&cc=&prodId=hpscanjet67121&lc=en&softitem=Microsoft%20Windows%20XP&sw_lang=en) This should do what you need, but sometimes with patches what you have to do is to place the folders physically inside the folder for the scanner program, but this means you need tohave the software installed first before applying the patch. It's been my experience that the hp software already includes the patch.

In case you haven't already done so, you might also click on FAQ's from that link that geoscomp sent you. It has a couple of issues that might be related to you.

IMHO tho, since you said it is showing up under Other Devices, I would try to completely remove that device. It should be listed under your USB devices.

As you probably know, most USB devices prefer you to load the drivers in first and then hook the device up to the USB port.

Just a couple of suggestions...let us know how it all ends up.
