Our local minor league baseball team starts their home opener on Thursday - I can hardly wait. This is their tenth season and I have been to every home opener except the first season (was not able to get tickets). I really love to go to the games, but have not followed major league baseball for over ten years. Once you have seen the enthusiastic play in minor league baseball, there is no reason to ever watch major league baseball again.

Grand Rapids, home of the West Michigan Whitecaps.

I hear ya. My local minor league baseball team is the Saint Paul Saints. Although I have not gotten the chance to see one of their games, they are known to be a very fun time to watch. The whole organization goes out of their way ot make the trip to the ballpark an awesome time. Bill Murry is part owner of the Saints, and has been known to show up and sell hotdogs in the stands. He loves the team, and loves to show the fans a good time. This is one of the many reasons that the minor leagues will always rule over the majors.

Tell me about it. Portland just got the BoSox AA club shipped in the other day. Who needs to go to Fenway and spend 60 bucks for tix when Portland's a shorter drive and hella cheap. They even have a Green Monster Replica!

And my own town just got a Collegiate summer team last year. Not a lot of homers and the pitching is so so, but for five bucks general admission, who cares!

thats the reason i love college basketball. yeah the games are sloppy sometimes, but its the emotion in the players that makes it so damn fun to watch

Sigh...there is no minor league baseball in Anchorage. We do have a college summer league that's pretty good. When we lived in Tucson I would catch the Toro's (Houston AAA) who became the Sidewinder's (D'backs AAA). When I lived in Virginia I would catch the Bluefield Orioles of the Appalachian Rookie League.

Gotta love minor league baseball. I usually take the kids to Friday night games down in Pawtucket (Red Sox AAA). McCoy Stadium was rehabbed a couple of years ago and its MUCH more enjoyable and cheaper than going to Fenway.

Hey Meatwad, are you from Portland? I got some family up that way.

No, but close enough that going to Hadlock OR Fenway isn't too much of a hike. :D
