This aught to be pretty simple for someone but it's been a while since I've done this stuff. Say I have a square and I want a circle around it (perfectly hugging the corners of the square) how do I find the diameter of the circle if I know the size of the square?

a squared + b squared = c squared
a = box side 1
b = box side 2 (same as a if you can draw a perfect circle around it)
c = hypotenuse = diameter

Take the diagonal of the square shape and multiply it by pi.
The formula for finding the circumference of a circle is pi r2
Since the diagonal of your square is also the diameter of the circle which is r2 (radius) you just need to multiply the diagonal by pi (3.14)

Draw it and measure it.
OK, what you need is the distance between the centre of the square, and a corner.
Pythagoras say: Square on the hypoteneus = sum of the squares on the other two sides. Longest side = edge of square = Hypoteneus.
Hypoteneus^2 = 2*(distance to corner^2)
So if you do....
square root of((Length of edge^2)/2)
That will give you the number you require.
Noo's method will also work.

Or you could cheat like I used to by drawing the square in Autocad, then drawing the circle around it then getting the properties of the circle. Hehehe.
