Hi,
I xp, under power options, is it possible to turn off hard disk for one had drive? I have 2 HD, C: is Western Digital and D: is a real loud Maxtor which I would like to leave off (I use it rarely for backed up info).

To turn off the hard drive.. it does both of them and lowest minutes are 3 mins. Can I have it turn off as soon as XP has started but have my C: drive running?

Don't know if this will actually work.. but go into device manager and disable the maxtor?

Thanks for the advice NooNoo,
Here is what I am doing right now. I just have it set to turn off hard disk after three minutes and the hard drives turn off. While they are off, my RAM handles everything unless I need to get into a directory. So they both stay off as I am using the internet or even play games. Maybe the C drive turns on, but it is so quiet, I cant tell. Do you think it is ok to use the computer and have the Hard Disks off? I mean they turn on when anything needs to access a file in there.

I can only set it at 3 mins as the lowest. Do you know how to set it for like 30 secs or a min?

Thanks again.

Oh, I say quiet because I finally installed a water cooler and now, the only sound is the fan in my power supply which I connected to a Rombus or speed control. I turn that Fan down low and now, the only thing I can hear is that Maxtor until the three mins after XP loads. Then, it’s seems too quiet for a computer. I can almost hear my heartbeat, the faucet dripping... etc.

I only found registry entries for the schemes on a quick look... if you have time then search your registry for things like "3 minutes"

maybe you have a problem with the hardrive.. has it always been too loud.. if it just started getting load.. check on the maxtor site and see if drive is still under warranty and send it in.
just an idea..:)
