Here is the problem:

We have about 30 or so XP Pro clients connecting to a 2000 server domain.

When the XP Pro machines join the domain everything is fine untill it is time for the IP to be renewed. Once it drops the old IP it will take the XP machine off of the domain.

If a static IP is assigned there are no issues with dropping from the domain.

I really cannot forsee any reason that this should be happening. Though a similar situation where a DLink router is assigning the IPs dynamically and connected to a domine, the XP mahines never drop.

My Director has the crazy notion that its all XPs fault and she hates it, but I doubt this is true... she is kind of a fossel and refuses to move ahead.

Anyway, has anyone else seen the problem?
I am heading now to do more searching on MS's site for a fix.
I hope it is 2000 that is having the problem so i can run it in her face:)

On the 'errant' beasts, what happens if you manually release & renew the ip ....

So from cmd "Ipconfig/release" & "ipconfig/renew" ....?

Same or different?

At least this should kick you back the reason (like 'unable to contact dhcp server' or whatever).

i even released and restarted and let it renew by itself and still no problems...

not sure if the issue is resolved or not....

did a little research and found out that the issue came from our previous server.

it origanally had NT4.0 on it then upgraded to 2000... then when any issue came up they would install over the top and the DHCP issue would follow it to the next install...

Our new server is not producing the problem, so i guess its old news and no problems since the new server implimentation..
