Ever notice how it doesn't get everything?

For instance, it misses a LOT of files in the ..\local settings\temp. Also, when you use the delete cached files in IE, it doesn't delete everything (namely cookies).

I realize the Disk Cleanup is suppose to leave temp files that are less than seven days old, but I've seen it miss stuff that was years old.

It's very strange.

Manual cleanup works okay, but I wonder why Disk Cleanup misses the boat...

I believe it looks at when the file was last accessed... which is not necessarily when the file is dated... It wouldn't clean cookies because people don't remember their passwords!

But I agree, it does a lousy job on the whole. Explorer and the human eye is still the best.

Hmmmm... that's a good point.

Anyone want to run this for sure and try it out?

System Mechanic does a pretty good job of cleaning. But you do have to look at what it digs up as you sometimes have to return files to where they belong. You can also choose to backup what it cleans out and later remove the backup if everything's ok.
