 I had recently have had a no sound issue, where in I was playing a BF1942 demo when my sound started to hiss at times. Then it would happen more often in this demo and finally no sound for any application at all. This hiss was only present in this demo game. I had ran dxdiag and sound test and got an error code of stoped at step 19(HRESULT=0X0000000000) I use a AZUZ TUVAX Apollo pro133T chipset. No onboard audio, SB live 5.1 Creative labs Sound Card which has replaced a SB 512PCI and still experience the no sound issue. I've tried to update the driver and roll back (XP Pro P3 768sdram) and with no results. It seems Iv'e tried everything I can to correct the problem. Could it be the mother board which is only 3 months old or C drive going bad. Had lost two drives and restored to much earlier check point. That seemed to help the other issues. Don't know maybe hard drive/Motherboard. Please help!

Welcome & "Don't panic !" .... sounds more like a stuffed windoze install than anything else .....

Can you identify just what devices 'live' in your system ... so cpu, mem, video, we know what sound card & motherboard, and anything else you can identify... whether you bought that 'complete' or whether its an upgrade or a home build ...?

Most likely I'm gonna end up saying format & re-install or maybe an 'in-place' re-install might fix it ... but with all that rolling back of drivers etc your system might be terminally 'confus-ed' & require starting again ....

More info = more chance of fixing it .... ;)

First I'd like to thank you for your response. This is a home built computer. Since XP pro was installed it started slowing down. I bought Memokit and PC powerscan. That didn't seem to help that much. Well anyways, I have a pentium 3 CPU 40g and 30 g hard drives (western Digital and Mitsumi), one of which is not shown and 768 ram. I'm using the 40g. I use ADSL inline with phone filter. I have an ATI Radeon 7500 Video. I just Installed SB Live 5.1 Creative labs. Standard CDrom and a 24x10x40x burner. If I must Reformat. how do i get the other hard drive to show as present.

You are most welcome to the response ! :) ...as this is a public forum stand by for some more ... some are good, some are bad, sometimes helpful, sometimes not ! .... so treat all suggestions as just that ! ;)

What's installed on which drive ? & what exactly do we want to save ... ? Do we have disks for everything ?

Also is this an 'upgrade' to XP or a 'clean' install ? Formatted as NTFS or FAT32 ?

Since we have two 'biggish' hard drives we have several options so saving data shouldn't be too hard ....

Since this is a 'Home built system' an indication of your expertise or otherwise is good too, saves on explanations.... :eek2:

:eek2: OK I reformatted both drives as well as partitioned them in NTFS and and installed XP pro on the 40g drive. I now have both drives present. I then installed the M/B drivers. Next I ran the 7500 Radeon ATI video. Then I installed the Sound card drivers and software. I got sound only once when windows shut down for the first Initial time. When I rebooted, I got a short sound in the welcome window and then nothing again. So what did I learn!" I have skeakers that work. Well I did a little test. I plugged the main speaker terminal to the digital out on the sound card and ran the music center program and got a faint sound of the actual music, but scratchy. This is where I'm at now. Still no sound in the front out of the card for 2.1 speaker setup. Could it be that the Expansion slot is faulty on the M/B!? I will change the position and see. If you know anything at this juncture, do tell!

While I was 'sleeping' you fixed it ... good ! .... just a note for future reference, moving devices from one pci slot to another changes the resources a PCI card uses, so if you have a device conflict - it fixes it .... we never got that far, but its good to go now !;) You seem pleased anyway !!! :D
