Hi! i'm currently using windows media player 9 on winxp pro is there anyway to make it "always on top" when playing back video files? Thanks

I'm using WMP 7 and if you go to Tools->Options on the first 'Player' tab there is a check bow for 'When in compact mode, Always display on top'

I assume that WMP 9 has the same option, and this means, of course, that you have to switch it to compact mode, but that should do the trick.

edit: changed to say WMP 7 instead of WMP & (stupid shift key :-)

This is with WMP7 using the default skin(s)

I tried this with an .AVI and an .MPG and have no problems seeing the video and having it stay on top. The videos I viewed did seem to resize and therefore pixilate a little bit in compact mode but were still viewable.

The only thing it didn't show me in compact mode was a visualization that was part of an .AVI file, but the player was still always on top.

Is the behavior you are getting the same for all file types or just ones with visualizations? What file types are you opening that aren't visible in compact mode?

Is this behavior the same regardless of the skin being used?

Can anyone else recreate this behavior in WMP9?

As GokuSS2 points out the native WMP mplayer2 has the option.

It should be just a matter of choosing a different skin, as some skins are geared towards music playing rather than video playing.

One other thing to watch out for is some skins have a "hide video/vis" button or a "compact" button, and you then need to figure out which button reveals the video/vis window.

Here are some skins which are pretty good for video viewing 9SeriesDefault
Classic
Compact
Corporate
Some other skins do have a video window, but it can't be resized.

BTW: have you tried the Toolbar mode?

While WMP9 is open, minimize it, then right click on an open area of the task bar and choose: toolbar>Windows Media Player
It has a small video/vis window that is always on top, just click the v button.
