[RESOLVED] Hard Drive write protect

Long story shortened....Fujitsu 6gb IDE Hard drive became write protected during major crash caused by electric outage during "ScanDisk" Is there anyway of removing the write protect status?

Yes Sir, I have removed the drive and installed another. Actually, the drive belongs to my friend and we had all but given up on the data within. So, the drive sits here ready for the garbage, but I wanted to make every effort to retrieve what could be salvaged. All I've heard from others is that the drive is toast unless I was willing to spend in excess of $500 to retrieve it from one of the data retrieval services. My friend does not have that kind of money. The data consists of his small business QB99Pro data for the year and a lot of family pictures. Thanks for your attention. Bill

If you can copy the data from the "write protected" drive to another drive (as you seem to have indicated in your last post), and if the data is all there on the drive you copied it to, I think you should be able to do a FDISK/MBR on the old drive, then reformat that drive and return it to use...

or am I missing something here?
