Hi All
Anyone got some good tips on how to clean a coffee spill on a Laptop.
Customer reports 3 "sticky" keys.
On his way.

Usually you can pull the keyboards up off notebook PCs. You have to be careful though because the ribbon cables and their connectors break easily. Unplug the notebook, pull out the battery and look around the keyboard, usually theres a place to insert a small tool like a very small screwdriver and pry up the keyboard. Sometimes there's a retaining cover that has to be pried up first.
I've gained most of my notebook hardware skills by trial and error, follow this path at your own peril. If you're patient you should be able to get it apart. After that just rinse the keyboard (don't use soap) in lukewarm water and let it dry -thoroughly- before putting it back together. You can usually get to the mouse roller and buttons as well.

You can go to Radio Shack and get some Static Remover spray. Use that to get rid of the coffee stains on your keyboard. Separate the keyboard first and wait until it dries.
Good Luck,

Had a look at the job
Coffee in the Battery Compatment!
Easy to solve
Threw it away and took a £1000 order
The Company can afford it and it saves me buggering about.
Thanks all for the advice.:) :) :) :) :)

Send it to me! I have repaired many a laptop that I had to pour coffee out of. I semi dismantle it so I can get the little tube inside and spray a ton of "contact cleaner" (available at Radio Shack) and let it dry for a couple of days and then it works perfectly.

Exactly what Techs said. Ive done quite a few myself...not always coffee...mostly pop.
8 times out of 10 nothing fried during the liquid spill and dismantling, cleaning it off with contact cleaner, and reassembly will make it work fine.

OK
Have 2 tins of 200g cleaner
Can you guys be a little more precise
Assume I strip out battery etc and take off back
Do you clean the contact pad from the top or bottom?

UPDATE
Got it out the rubbish
When I fire it up it requires a Bios Password which incidentally begins with P
When I press P I get two entries on the string.
All other keys enter 1 character into the string
It would be the BIOS PASSWORD!
But it looks as if I am dealing with a single key!
Sounds from what you say I am still going to have to rip the guts out the thing.:(

Well, if you don't want to go through all that, you can just send it to me...I'll even pay the shipping. :) I'm assuming it's still a viable piece if you are even considering all this work...?
My wife needs a lappie for school, and we are flat broke - this military income just isn't cutting it - we can't even afford daycare for her to get a job :(

First unplug it and remove the battery.Just remove enough of the keyboard to get the tube in. then spray, spray, spray. After it is soaked press all the keys firmly, repeatedly. allow to dry for two days then try again. If it still doesn't work remove more of the case cover, etc and get the tube really deep and repeat.

Listen Archangel
If the customer doesnt want to wait for the week it takes to sort his laptop and just adds another one to tomorrow's order.
Stuff me buggering around with it I will post it to you
Keep your fingers crossed it makes no difference to me.
Last thing I want is another half knackered box in the stockroom .
Will advise

Hrmmm...not quite up on UK slang, but it sounds like a good thing for me :)
The closest translation I can figure is "There is no way in #&!! I'm going to waste my time with this. If he doesn't want to wait, I'll send it to you. I don't want another broken computer in the storage closet."
I appreciate it man...looks like I'm getting a very small bonus in my next check - just enough to cover the postage.
