Here is the situation: We moved offices and got all nice new shiny servers, but we have BACKUP PROBLEMS.
All our servers are IBM xSerise 235 with Ultrium LTO backup drives. We are using the built-in Backup Utility that comes with Windows 2000. I cannot get the schedules to run properly. We backup Mon thru Thursday Incremental and Friday runs a Full Back up. I'm completely clueless about the Remote Storage media pools....Free , Import, Unrecognized and Backup. I don't know what it does. Anyway, I can run Full and Incremental on the fly but it has a hard time running schedules. I noticed this problem mainly when switching tapes. Like for instance, my normal Monday thru Thursday Incremental last week (all four days on the same tape), it runs fine on Monday evening by itself, then it doesn't run on Tuesday, Wednesday but runs on Thursday.....note that this is the same job scheduled for all four days. Weird huh, so..I had my co-worker change out the tapes on Friday, eject the tape...insert the new tape for Friday's full backup job. It's didn't run at all on Friday even though the tapes where prepared and the job was scheduled.
Any ideas as to why the won't run on schedule? All of our servers are setup exaclty like this with the same results....I'm clueless. What does dismount, mount, prepare, deallocate and allocate do in the Remote Storage?
