Thanks PeLiGrOsO July 30th, 2003, 10:19 AM do a search on the net for the manufacturer and model number. different companies will use the same hard drive under different names and numbers. I took out an old 4 gb hard drive from a toshiba laptop and it was compatible with many compaqs, dells, ibms, toshibas and many more. sold it in ebay for $90. FatalException0E July 30th, 2003, 12:47 PM Should work on any laptop, as long as: 1) It physically fits in the case 2) The BIOS can identify it With only a 4GB drive, it should work in pretty much anything. machineman July 31st, 2003, 03:35 PM Look at what the drive is mounted in. The drive itself is standard but has a vendor specific tray or bracket. Put the 4GB next to what ever one you're replacing and swap parts. Good luck if you're looking to have a back up drive to swap in and out at will because you will need to purchase an extra tray. What sizes are the drives your attempting to use? They may be larger then the BIOS supports. 3fingersalute February 1st, 2006, 03:31 PM I don't see a 4090XCDT even listed on Toshiba's support site (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1717748998.11388 25643@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfaddglkkjddicgfkceghdgngdgnn.0), but there is a 4080XCDT, and it shipped with a 6.4GB hard drive, so I'm betting yours doesn't support a very large drive either. confus-ed February 1st, 2006, 03:56 PM ..is the laptop for the bin?.. I dunno ! :D - but my tip for you is to spend $5 or so on a 2.5" to 3.5" inch ide converter plug & test your drive in a desktop, you know is ok, if you think its just that :). the lengthy man February 2nd, 2006, 01:46 PM the hd are:4.3gb which is the one originaly from the laptop(had it checked and works fine),and the other is a 15gb which purchased 2nd hand, all im looking to do is get the thing up n running to surf the net from a comfy sofa! windrivers.com
