i use DVD-Region Free 2.0 , DVD-Decrypter 3.1.6.0 and DVDx 2.2 to convert to DivX, i have done this with 2 DVD's and both times have faced the same problem, DVDx cannot seek further than a certain time (different in both DVD's), and when i encode the entire movie to DivX, that exact time that DVDx cannot seek to gives me an error, so at the end of encoding the movie it gives me an error and does not produce a divx file. I followed lots of tutorials and checked everything, i havent made any settings mistakes.

What worked was when i encoded using DVDx chapter by chapter (After decrypting chapter by chapter, not the entire movie at once, so then i have many vob files)that way it wouldnt give any problem, but that takes lots of time.

Also i tried using the full vob file for the movie and using DVDx, specified each chapter as each new volume in the Output field, it stats each chapter from the beginning of the movie, so even when i choose Chapter 3 (4m 30sec) it starts from position 00:00:00 and then to 00:04:30 not from say 0025:00 to 00:29:30. And there is no new version or update for correcting this problem.

Also in export format is YUY2 or RGB24 better?

I was wondering if there are any other tools other than DVDx, i heard of Gordon Knot, is it good?

what is
* mux rate & vbv buffer size in DVDx
* bi-directional encoding & gmc in DivX

Thanks

i had a simular problem with a 10x DVD rom, get maybew 50% into a disc and the app would bomb out on me, in the end I used dvdrip and then flaskmpeg to do the work from there.

As for DVD- DivX, it really depends on what quality you want, and what disc space you want to use.

for some reason DVDx can only convert 7 chapters at a time, tried on 3 dvd's, no prob with DVD Decrypter, it rips the whole dvd just fine.
