I've downloaded Intellimouse 2.0 and loaded to my PC. However, I can't seem to get the mouse to work even though it is all set up correctly. When I plug my old mouse back in it works perfectly - any ideas???

Re: Mouse Balls

Dear Sir or Madam:
Mouse balls are now available as FRU (Field Replacement Units). Therefore, if a mouse fails to operate or should it perform erratically, it may need a ball replacement. Because of the delicate nature of this procedure, properly trained personnel should only attempt replacement of mouse balls.
Before proceeding, determine the type of mouse balls by examining the underside of the mouse. Domestic balls will be larger and harder than foreign balls. Ball removal procedures differ depending upon the manufacturer of the mouse. Foreign balls can be replaced using the pop-off method. Domestic balls can be replaced by using the twist-off method; Mouse balls are not usually static sensitive. However, excessive handling can result in sudden discharge.
Upon completion of ball replacement, the mouse may be used immediately. It is recommended that each replacer have a pair of spare balls for maintaining optimum customer satisfaction. Any customer missing his balls should suspect local personnel of removing these necessary items.

Sincerely,
Weelie Squirrelnuts

is this real? lol

i also have a problem with an intelli mouse. but its not the mouse. my old pc did not have a ps/2 port, so i used the adapter (that came with the mouse) to convert it to serial. this does not work. i could not get any ps/2 mouse to work if i use an adapter (any adapter) to convert it to serial. does anyone else have this problem? if someone has a fix to this please please reply. i now have a new pII that luckliy has ps/2 ports. but i still have this problem on other pc's.

P.S. mouse balls also shrink if u stick them in water and wash them http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif

Most Adapters I found, do not work, unless they were specific to the mouse itself.
Like, If you purchased a Logitech mouse, it would come with it's own adapter.

As for the adapters, the ones that come with the intellimouse exhibits the same problem. On a dual boot Linux KDE / Win95 system, linux saw the mouse fine using the ps/2 to com adapter, yet Win could never quite get it. Removed the adapter, installed a ps/2 port, plugged the mouse into it, and windows saw it fine. Go figure.
