Problem Running AVG BOOT SCAN

Hey Gang,

I am trying to run an AVG boot scan. The first time I ran this a couple of weeks ago it went fine.

I am trying to run it from my G (or F) drive, which is my CDRW. I have also tried running it from my CDR and same things happens.

When I go from

A:\>F:
F: AVG\AVG.EXE

I get the following error message:

25 01A7 00499C14

Protected Mode Exception Vectors

No sel offset

Real mode interrupt vectors

No seg offset

Call-Backs

Real target


Causeway error 09 : Unrecoverable exception. Program Terminated
F:\>

Does anyone know why I am not able to run AVG boot scan?

Which avg ? Free or 7 ?

& 'how' are we getting to a: ? with the avg boot disk, a windoze CD , something else ..? & which windoze are we trying to do this in?

When you say this, do you mean a floppy & you edited autoexec.bat & config.sys to include support for cds OR a windoze CD - windoze cd should, from memory, create the right environment.

If you mean a floppy I suspect that you need to edit all the load bits to include 'high' (you mightn't know what I mean by this) ... that looks like a dos memory management issue - any other 'oddities' in your autoexec like emm386 ?

The AVG file is expecting to be run from a: without any cd support or anything in upper memory (for DOS that means above 640 ) ... I seem to remember you couldn't get the files to fit on floppies so I told you to burn them to cd as they were too big ?? (on another thread?)

Once I am at the A: prompt I switch to my F drive which is a CDR drive. There I have located my AVG rescue disks. The file is called AVG. Within it is the file I want called AVG.EXE.

Whe I go to that file it seems to want to start up normally, but after a few seconds I get the error message.

It looks like I might have to add some lines to my autoexec.bat. What are the lines that I have to add to make AVG to work right?

Create a set of AVG rescue floppy disks...your already booting from a floppy anyway.My experience has not been lucky in running it from a CD...

I can't do that Shamus.

The entire program is 2.1mb and it has an AVI file that is 1.52mb. Otherwise I would.

Update: The first time I tried to create a rescue disk several weeks ago it wouldn't work because the disks were too small. Now for some reason when I tried to create a rescue set it WORKED.

Now I can scan from A Drive....

But Orangeman I will say make/get yourself another boot floppy - what is all that 'crap' that's in there? No bloomin' wonder it wouldn't start ! Why are you using AVG when you have a zillion references to Mcafree in your autoexec ?

A good place to get 'clean' bootdisks is Bootdisk.com (http://www.bootdisk.com/) (you can get bootdisks for any windows version, with/without cd support)

(BTW aplogies for not 'finnishing' what I'd started ... it was 1am here when I saw your starter on this thread ... I went to bed ;))

I don't know why I wasn't able to make a boot disk before and now I am.
Or why AVG started successfully from CDROM the first time and didn't the second....Or what those error messages mean.

Beats the hell out of me.

As to McAfee Virusscan, no way will I use it. I am using McAfee on 4 diffferent utilites - copy machine, undelete, zip manager, and registry editor. But no way will i use virsuscan.

First, it slowed down my system, second it had too many bells and whistles, and third, its not free.
