NooNoo October 18th, 2003, 07:19 AM US and Canada only :( silencio October 18th, 2003, 11:03 AM Interesting. I checked them out a bit and found an article on Microsofts site about the company. They're not bogus. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks Man! Stalemate October 18th, 2003, 11:13 AM Haven't found any loopholes yet. Looks good. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/wd/images/smilies/wink.gif That was a looong contract wasn't it? I'm hoping there's an option to cap bandwidth. I didn't see that yet but it's probably there. Major Kong October 18th, 2003, 01:37 PM I read their agreement (I'm bored at work today) and went ahead and signed up. It looks pretty darn good. :thumbs2: Darn NooNoo sorry that you can't get it in the UK. :( silencio October 18th, 2003, 01:48 PM I signed up too. There's an alert function to let you know if you're going over a preset spending limit but it doesn't automatically shut anything down. Theoretically a bunch of people could download say, a large avi and you'd wind up paying $.99 per gig of bandwidth. bbtech6650 October 26th, 2003, 01:00 AM its sweet alright...except i cannot get my domain to accept mail...their stupid mail server denies all traffic (anyone had success with theirs?)...and the have horrible tech support hours (8a-8pEST M-F) I wish we had that techie schedule.... :flame: silencio October 26th, 2003, 12:24 PM its sweet alright...except i cannot get my domain to accept mail...their stupid mail server denies all traffic (anyone had success with theirs?)...and the have horrible tech support hours (8a-8pEST M-F) I wish we had that techie schedule.... :flame: It took over a day for mail to start flowing into the domain. It works fine now that it's up though. Archangel42069 October 30th, 2003, 09:16 AM I'm amazed that this is actually legit.........I haven't signed up yet - wanted to see what other people saw in it, but I may just have to go for it now. By the time 3 years is up I will be well on my way to actually being able to pay for the service when the trial runs out!!! ilovetheusers October 30th, 2003, 10:16 AM I signed up too. Theoretically a bunch of people could download say, a large avi and you'd wind up paying $.99 per gig of bandwidth. Yeah, but it that megabits or megabytes of transfer? Huge difference. EDIT: Guess if I just read... 12. DATA TRANSFER VOLUME 12.1. Unless otherwise agreed to in writing, a data-transfer volume of 6 Gigabytes per months is included in the 1&1 Services. The utilized data-transfer volume is calculated on the basis of all data-transfers that take place during any given calendar month (including but not limited to downloads, email, uploads and website visits). For purposes of this Agreement, 1 Gigabyte equals 1000 Megabytes, 1 Megabyte equals 1000 Kilobytes and 1 Kilobyte equals 1000 Bytes. Darkstar October 30th, 2003, 04:08 PM Wow, got started with this yesterday and just registered 2 domains for $5.99 a year and already got my index.html and pop mail kickin. This is truly an awesome find! Major Kong October 30th, 2003, 06:12 PM I got my first invoice Monday. $5.99 for registering my domain was it. I've just started doodling around with my web space before I came back up to work, but everything is up and running. As silencio said it took about a day for the mail server to kick in and all is well now. :D Gollo October 30th, 2003, 11:52 PM Definetly on the up and up too. I saw an add in eweek advertising this same deal. Cheers. Archangel42069 October 31st, 2003, 04:54 PM Definetly on the up and up too. I saw an add in eweek advertising this same deal. Cheers. Yeah...this month's Maximum PC was running an ad as well. Whoever is starting this thing up has got some major cash. [NeoZeeD] November 2nd, 2003, 10:47 AM i was looking into getting a website too instead of the free ones. how much would you pay is it 29/month ? silencio November 2nd, 2003, 11:05 AM ']i was looking into getting a website too instead of the free ones. how much would you pay is it 29/month ? It's $29/month after the first 3 years but there wasn't anything in the contract to keep you there after 3 years if something cheaper comes along. Archangel42069 November 3rd, 2003, 11:55 AM It's $29/month after the first 3 years but there wasn't anything in the contract to keep you there after 3 years if something cheaper comes along. Yeah.....That's what I thought was so great about it.....3 years free, with no commitment? I wonder, though, if all traffic is included in that 6GB....mail and other stuff, you know? silencio November 3rd, 2003, 01:21 PM I read the entire contract and the only gotcha I can see is if your website goes postal and you use 100Gig of throughput. Every 1GB of throughput over 5 is a dollar. You could easily get burned if you were hosting some kind of file sharing site (all of a sudden everyone in the world wants to see your 200meg tommy lee and pamela video) but with the occasional avi etc I don't see much of a downside. There is an option to be warned if you're spending over a preset limit. I set mine at $2 just to be on the safe/cheap side. I think the 6gig only counts web traffic and not email. bbtech6650 November 5th, 2003, 07:06 AM anyone else "losing emails sent to or from their mail server? I have noticed that frequently. I was dreading giving them a call about this, as they will prolly say something like "Well sir, what do you want us to do? After all, your not actually paying for anything" silencio November 18th, 2003, 10:22 AM Yer right, their email sucks. I get emails bounced back that won't send OUT and I get "cannot relay" errors trying to send INTO my domain. At least it's free bandwidth... silencio December 10th, 2003, 11:13 PM Anyone currently having a problem with 1&1? My site appears to be down.
