My CDRW only wants to read audio tracks, it will not recognize a cdrom. Windows 98, the original computer had just a CDROm drive in it(drive D), a CDRW(drive G) was added as well a few years later and it worked fine for a long time. When the power outages hit the original CDROm drive went a someone unhooked it for me(they said it would strain the rest of the computer if i left it hooked up) and it worked for a while but now it wants to read everything as audio tracks. I have tried other cdroms i know that only have data on them and still.
I have tried several things and just can't get it to work, there is a PC Doctor that came on the computer that i can test it with and it stops the test and tells me to insert a data cd not a music cd. In device manager I have noticed that the name is slightly different, it should read ATAPI CD-R/RW but it seems the T and the P are replaced with characters I cannot recreate lol, i tried deleting it hoping it would fix it self on reboot but it didn't. I cannot try the drivers that came with the CDRW because it is on disk and it won't read disks lol, I am willing to reinstall windows but can't even do that because again it won't read disks.
Any ideas on what i can try or could it be something as simple as it still recognizing the other drive that was supposed to be unhooked.
Thanks
it is a P111, 96 Mb, IBM aptiva 2171, it isn't that important as i have another computer but I am trying to learn with the old computer.
Thanks
PS when i do put a cd in and try running it it shows as track 1 and so on, when i know for sure there is no audio on the disk, I burned it myself from the IBm site for updates for that model of computer.
