my cd rom and my cd rw drives no longer work,i get error message 39 windows cannot locate the driver for this device the driver is either corrupt or missing. can i download the proper driver anywhere?the cd rom drive is a compaq model ltn 403 the cd- rw is phillips model cdd4801/71

You don't need drivers for CD drives!
Go into Hardware/Device Manager and remove your cds.
Then restart.
Barring hardware problems, they should reappear.
When and how do you get this error message?
What computer do you have: model name and number or motherboard model?
There may have been "corruption" or, maybe the cable has gone bad.
Could be a few things, but fixable nonetheless.

if its windows xp or 2000, click here for the fix (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060) if its not xp or 2k, please let us know what windows it is, and what you have recently changed.
