Hey Gang,
When I try to copy and paste from the Internet onto a Word document I'm getting an "Insufficient Memory" errror message. It asks me to "close some extra windows and save your work".
The only applications I have that are different on my machine are McAfee Firewall and a program called 'Kcpu cooler v.1' The second one is supposed to cool your cpu to help overclocked cpu's from overheating and thereby increasing stability.
I closed Firewall and CPU cooler and I'm still getting the error. CPU cooler is supposed to use few system resources.
Does anybody have an idea of what's causing this? I haven't had this kind of error message in a long time.
Word 2000, IE 6, AOL 9.0. Elitegroup K7SEM mobo, Dialup 56k connection. Win98SE, AMD Duron 850 overcloced (at factory) to 900mb, 512mb of RAM. McAfee Firewall Free version and CPU Cooler v1.
Thanks,
Orangeman

Try deleting the normal.dot and see if this helps. This could be corrupted.

What are you trying to copy and paste? Word is kind of flakey when it comes to pasting or inserting objects and images. You might try some of the alternative formats under paste special (like unformatted text). If its an image, you might try saving the image to disk and doing a paste link.

Usually when I see that error is in Outlook 98, when users here try to save an email as a Doc or Msg file to the server, and the path is too long. They save the file to a shorter path, or locally and it works just fine. Some limitation in 98. When upgrading them to 2000, I never saw the problem again, and the one’s still with outlook 98 have to use explore to move their files after they save them from outlook.
What that means to you: don’t let the error about insufficient memory lead you to believe that your system is bogged down, or that you need more memory. Invariably when you get this error in and Office app, it implies something completely different. Don’t forget to probe the Knowledge base at Microsoft…

You're right about that. The reason I was so concerned was that I seldom get this error in MS Word. However Once I got rid of that friggin' 'kcpu cooler' the problem went away..
