XP-HP Web Jetadmin and HP2200

Here is my problem: I have 3 PCs networked and a HP 2200 local to one. I bought a JetDirect card and installed it. I want to download Web JetAdmin but get an error saying Java not installed on XP. I go to the Java website and the download ends in an error. I think I remember that Windows and Java are not compatible anymore. The two companies are having a spat. How can I network the printer so all three pcs can print to it? #1-XP, #-2000, #3-95. The JetDirect card has an IP address and hostname. TIA

Which java did you download? The old MS or the new SUN?

Java and windows are compatible, the point about java is that it is cross platform. More likely this is a symptom of a corrupt setup somewhere.

Here's how I would do it:

Since both Windows 2000 and Windows XP support printing to a TCP/IP printer I would not even bother with the HP JetAdmin software. Instead, install the printer on these two computers by adding a new printer, select the local printer option (and turn off the option to check for a PnP printer), then selecting the option to create a new port. Create a TCP/IP port, then just follow along and plug in the correct IP address for the JetDirect card. Finish up by installing the HP2200 drivers with the "Have Disk" option.

Now, for the Win95 box, you have a couple options. One would be to share the printer from either the XP or 2000 box, then add it to Windows 95 as a network printer.

The other would be to skip the JetAdmin software and instead download just the JetDirect client here:

Install the JetDirect client on the Windows 95 box and you can then add the printer as a TCP/IP printer without networking the printer from either Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
