I have gotten into Safe mode and cannot get out of it! I am trying to run a "repair" or a Reinstall on a Windows XP home system and no matter what I try I can't get the computer to boot into normal or even safe mode without wanting to restart the setup then give the Following message:

"Windows XP Setup cannot run under safe mode. Setup will restart now"

Setup restarts and goes back the same message.

I have tried using F8 and picking a different start method but it always goes back to Safe mode.

Does any one know if there is any way to either stop the installation so that I can get into safe mode and change the Boot.ini back to normal start

or

Get this thing to start in normal mode and continue the repair?

I have looked all over the net for and answer and can't seem to come up with a solution anywhere.

Thank you for any help you can send my way.

Is it formatted fat32 or ntfs?

If its fat32 get a 98 bootdisk and edit the boot ini in dos

If its ntfs, boot from the xp cd and go into repair console and edit it there.l

Thank you, that was it! I tried that once before but I was not able to find the BOOT.INI file. I did not look on the root! Once I took out the Safe boot line all was good.
