Ok I have Win XP and a gravis gamepad pro Joystick that I was trying to install. I found only these drivers below.
<a href="http://www.gravis.com/support/sup_1038.html" target="_blank">XP Beta Drivers.</a>

Installed the software and drivers and everything seemed ok until I went to the Joystick properties in the control panel it said my joystick is not connected.

But when I go to HID in device manager it show the joytick working perfectly.

One Question is why did it not install to the Joystick panel. and why did it install in the HID panel (Human interface devices).

I can go to the gravis software program and check the joystick and everthing looks fine. but in the joystick panel in control panel it doesn't say it's connected.

I've reinstalled the software and drivers a few times but still can't get it to work.

PS. the game I'm trying to get it to work on is NHL 2002 and in the joystick setup it only shows Keyboard as an option. So if anyone else has this game maybe they could help too.

The game is XP compatible also.

12.3 meg on a 56k modem, well I was watching the footie...I mean soccer...no I don't I mean Football(Not that other thing where guys crash headlong into each other for no apparent reason..familiar :D ?)...

Mine seems to work Gravis Xterminator(nearest I had - but I was intrigued your symptoms are what mine did in 98).

Mine shows in joystick panel and works!, and twice in device manager under HID (One is the device, the other the pass through port on the joystick).

Strangely though the Gravis Software itself can't find it, says I need to add it through control panel and to finnish the installation???

I also found an unnamed 6 button gravis pad, which I can't see on their website, but this seems to work too, though not on the extra port of the xterminator(the whole point of having it) but on its own.

I've only tried one game at this point, but all seems ok functionally if not with the software.

It is BETA!

I've wazzed all this off to Gravis, suggest you do likewise....

I can bet they just say it's a beta and wait for the full release.

During the making of this post I figured the problem out but have not tested it yet.

On the back of the gamepad there is 1 player 2 player and grip I had it set to one player when I installed the game prot so it said it was not connected when I removed the game port andreinstalled it I made sure the switch was on grip and now it says it is OK.

I'll test it in game and get back to you.

You need to go to the Microsoft home page and download patch for USB (HID compliant) and Sidewinder game..you should also download HID Compliant keyboard (I believe)...once I did this, my fiance was quite happy....CJ

& Danimal is still 'lurking' - Hi ! not seen you for a while - better things to do now than fight with me ? :D

This would seem to be a reason for that 'Killing dead threads' topic ... http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/wd/showthread.php?t=52567 (http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/wd/showthread.php?t=52567) (when/if I ever figure out this 'new' bulletin board software, I'll be able to make that all one link !)
