soundmax sound card problem

I have a POS Compaq computer and I am trying to play Links 2003 edition golf game. everytime I load it up I get this message...wACMStreamSize FAILED (0x5 - WINERR_Access is denied. ) - estDstSize = 0 bytes. Compaq actually had me do something a while back to fix the sound card and now I cannot play this game. Does anybody have any suggestions?

What windows are we talking about here? Access denied errors are usually about permissions. Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the game?
