Because my computer was clogged up with lots of junk and it was very slow, my friend advised me to format it. I asked him if it would run ok if I formatted it because I didn’t have the software discs/drivers for the audio on my computer. He said it was ok and I stupidly followed his advice.

When I re-installed windows 98, it seemed to be running fine until I tried to play an mp3 file, my speakers which work fine were plugged in and turned on but there was no sound at all even though the file was playing. The exact same thing was happening when I tried to play audio CD’s as well.

I don’t have any software discs or drivers for the audio and I don’t know how to fix this problem. Please Help!

Thanks
Reuben

Hey Reubenb
There are several ways to attack this.
Look at the back where the speakers plug in. Do they plug into a card? Or do they plug into the motherboard?
If they plug into a card take the cover off and visually inspect the card and write down model numbers and or FCC numbers and post them here I may be able to find it and link ya to the drivers.
If its on the motherboard then knowing what type of motherboard is what we need. That will require model number of the computer itselfot the model of the motherboard
Another way is to enter the chat and have us help you there live
