Cannot copy <filename>. The Specified Network Name is No Longer Available.

I have been getting this error since installed Active Directory and set up a domain. The error only occurs when I am transfering large (over about 300mb) from the server to either workstation. One workstation is a Dell Inspiron 800 with a D-Link DWL 650 wireless pcmcia and the other is XP Pro on an Asus A7n8X Deluxe. I have tried using both the 3Com and the Nvidia adapters.

I found this Event ID 3036 in the workstation System Event Viewer. It says "The redirector detected a security signature mismatch. The connection has been disconnected." This shows up everytime the error occurs.

I have swapped the nics, cables and switch. Updated the OS's, set Server and XP Pro nics to 100Mbs Full Duplex and also to Auto. Synced the time between machines. Turned off power management on nics. Updated all drivers.

I have been fighting this on for about a week and I am out of ideas.

Help before I throw the server out the window.

What's the make and model of the switch/ hub you are connecting these things up with? Is it possible the problem is with this device, and the redirector issue is actually associated with the disconnect? Any other events on the WS, and what about on the server, any events...?

The first is a Netgear 16 Port FS116, the second is a Phoebe 5 Port. Both are 10/100.

No other events on the ws are errors. The server is getting alot of Event ID 5781. "Dynamic registration or deregistration of one or more DNS records failed because no DNS servers are available."

DNS seems to be working. I have the server (PDC) running the DNS service and it is pointed to itself and all the workstations are pointing to it.

I checked out the services. I think all is ok. I ensured that the Server service was running on each.

I can run PC Anywhere and stream mp3's all day without error. Only when large files are transfered does the error occur.

Could it be the name of the domain? It is only one word, without a "dotcom". I was think about changing it, but was not sure of the best way to do it. Would I run dcpromo and demote and rerun it to promote with the name change?

I was gonna say that it was your wireless nic/router. I had a dlink ap/router (614+) and it would do that too. Just drop out after a large file was being copied, downloaded whatever. But your problem seems deeper than this so.....

Whatever is causing this, is almost ceratinly to do with the other ! ;)

Edit:

Mmm ..maybe the fact that your top level domain is minus its '.com' bit has something confus-ed ? Usually though that causes issues 'without'(outside) the domain, the naming conventions indicate you should always use a 'full' one, so blob.com or whatever, 'blob.org' being a different thing from 'blob.com' .. but I ain't fathomed whether this is a public domain (where we have bought the designation & registered it at Network Solutions {for .com designations - others for .uk etc}) or just a private one, which I suppose doesn't need to be unique (though its gonna be simpler if it is) as long as internal requests get sent to the right domain..

Solved it finally.

I ran dcpromo and changed the domain's name to something.com. It worked. I have move over 4 gigs at once on 4 occasions. No problems. I could never have done that before.

Thanks for the replys.
