How Do I Clear the CMOS in Win98?

Hey Gang,

I used to know how to clear the CMOS in Win98 but I've forgotten. I remember its something about disabling 'NVRAM UPDATES' but I'll be damned if I remember where it is.

Can anybody help me out?

Indeed ! (I got in trouble on another thread over this :D) so safest way is pulling the cmos battery & leaving the unit off & unplugged overnight.

Else read your motherboard mannual & follow the advice carefully especially any bits about when power should & shouldn't be applied, make sure you get this right or you may damage your board (even though apparently I've been doing it 'wrong' for about twenty years, yet got away with it ! ;))

Clearing NVRAM which is the 'same yet different' (it contains deduced bios values -Non-Volatile Random Access Memory) is an option inside bios, this resets what arbitration has previously taken place between bios & devices over their allocations of irqs & memory ranges, its also sometimes called ESCD(Extended System Configuration Data - which is strictly for storing plug & play info), clearing this has the same effect as clearing cmos, but only as far as pci/isa/agp devices go (anything attaching 'eventually' to the pci bus), it won't affect say overclocking or aggressive memory timings...

If you can boot off a floppy or boot to dos prompt you can use killcmos. I have been using it for years. It is free and you can get it here. (http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/13/7/13-7-60.shtml)

EDIT: Your antivirus program will probably detect it as a virus because of what it does. I doesn't activate by itself so it is safe.

I already contacted MSI tec support. They gave me the name of the jumper to remove and replace.
