I have bought a Lite On burner because my CD-reader crashed.
I set the cables just like they sat on the reader, and I also changed it to master (like the reader was before). But when i started up Windows 98, the whole computer stop at the splash screen. But if I take out the IDE cable of the burner, it's work again. How should I do? ... it's some kind of conflict against the burner and the computer/Windows.

boot into safe mode without burner - device manager - remove old cd - reboot with no cd - shutdown - install burner ( make sure pin 1 on cable goes to pin 1 on burner) restart - should fly

Check your config.sys and autoexec.bat files and rem out any cd-rom drivers loading.

Does the cdr show correctly here ? Some bioses don't display it there but on the next screen which might go by pretty fast (but I can't google an image to illustrate) ... if it doesn't show there then the motherboard can't auto sense your new cdr.
