Hello everyone, my brother in law has a problem on his pc, it is running Win XP PRO, ATHALON 2 gig, a7n266-vm, 256 mb generic dimm.
His problem is after about half an hour of inactivity he will get a box up saying a serious error has occured, he then clicks on it and the pc locks up and has to be restarted.
could the ram cause this?

Pretty much anything could cause this so far ...
Look in the logs & post then I might hazard a guess :D

It is actually could be everything (well,almost everything ;) )...
It could be just a virus or CPU overheating... You didn't say what the system it is? If it is HP system, it could be defective motherboard (at least, we had to replace almost all the motherboards A7N266-M (you have VM??) because of different failures)...
It could be defective (unreliable) memory as well...

I hav'nt actually been round to see it yet, I have ordered a new micron memory stick, I don't think the cpu is problem as it seems ok untill he clicks off error box, but will update on post as soon as I have checked it over, it is a system I made up for him not a big name unit, but normal usage it is fine and stable untill he stops using it and leaves it unattended for say half an hour.

I have still not seen this PC but a bit more food for thought.
The problem only happens if it is left inactive, NOT if it is being used after about 30 mins.
It throws up a box saying a serious error has occured, when its clicked off system is sometime ok, sometime freezes, cntrl, alt del will somtimes resume other times restart button has to be pressed.

My guess now is it doesn't like standby/hibernate ....
Is this a game :D ?
