I have a coworker who is having problems emailing on the network. Our network here is running W2K with Outlook. He can send an email to his Bellsouth home email account with a Microsoft Word document attached and will receive the email BUT not the attachment. Now, if he emails the same email and attachment to his coworker in the adjacent cubicle he can in turn send this to the afore mentioned Bellsouth account and the email will arrive along with the attachment.

Any ideas on what is happening here? He mentioned that a few other coworkers are experiencing this problem and systems admin has no idea.

Thanks,

Jeff Farrar

We have been having all kinds of problems with emails being stripped of attachments on an incoming and outgoing basis, largely as a result of our spam filtering software. If your system uses such software, take a look at the settings. Also, what mail format is being used to send the email, text or html? Mail sent as text w/ attachments seems to go through more often.

You should also check that the virus checker hasn't been hobbled on his pc and that the attachments are therefore being stripped by the server virus checker.

Probably the automatic attachment removal in Outlook. This was introduced to O2k upwards through a security patch a couple of years back.

You can change the settings in the registry to allow certain files types or grab a copy of Attachment Options for Slovak. It's a COM add-in for Outlook that allows you to choose the attachments you want to allow throught he options panel.
