When my DVD is working..computer goes bizerk!!!

I recently bough Asus DVD +-r/rw Dual (model: drw-0402p/d)....Now..whenever my DVD is working (copying, burning opening) mouse pointer goes bizerk...disappering/appering, computers slows down drasticly, even now when i type my DVD is burning and letters are 3-5 seconds late!?!?!?...I have relativly fast machine...

mobo: Asus p4p8x
processor: 2,6 GHz Pentium Intel (800Fsb)
Mem: 2x256 DDr Kingston (400Mhz)
Os: Win2k SP4
Grafic: Abit FX5200 128 Mb DDR

p.s. My friend sugested that it might be driver (can't find it anywhere) or PSU....i have 280W..could this be a problem ...I tested in Probe ....12v goes on 11.975 and back ... 5v does to 4.999

I didn't know you were supposed to multi-task while burning, it could cause data corruption to the info burnt to disc or just make it take longer to burn. I'd just let my system be while it's burning.

The driver he is referring to will be the chipset drivers. You should then reinstall your video drivers after installing the chipset drivers. Asus has them (http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=P4P8X) There is also a bios flash concerned with dma speeds. This may have a bearing on the situation.
