can anyone tell me of a link (and a linux version) that i can d/load an iso of a bootable linux , that will setup easy ,i have a amd 400 cpu 128m memory and only a 2 gig h/drive , and allow an adsl modem to connect , and then allow me to connect to 2 xp machines ,
stipulation of os:
old s3 v/card
realtek 3109 n/work card
usb 1

am d/loading gnoppix from lancaster university (uk) ,,,,,5 miles down the road!!!!! ,, coming thru on the new ADSL at a steady 62.1bk/sec (59.1 true),,,,,would be quicker to drive down with a blank cdr ,,,,2hrs 58 to go.

Keep in mind that both of those distros are cd only. Meaning you can not save any configurations as they will be lost on the next reboot. It's a good tool to get used to linux with and see if a distro will run on your hardware or to access a hard drive on a system via linux (if it were unbootable for example) but other than that they aren't really usable. Checkout fedora (community release of redhat). Very user friendly and easy to maintain. You will probably have to download 3 iso's though. Cheers.

lok gnoppix will not load from the cd-rom on the donkey (lg drive) ,,,,but works ok on my big machine ,,,,apart from the k/board is pissed ,,,,all the keys are wrong.,,,,sees an 85 key us k/board
y= z ,,,etc and enter totaly blows out a session writing as i am now,

no connection for an USB modem ??????cannot see it. ,,,will connect thru my network OK ,,,,,but the idea was to use this for connection - not a terminal ,,,,,,,,could have used 3.11 win for that.

correct on the bootable ,,,,great for trying out.

now the idea for this was as a connector to the internet , in order to pass signals arount the building ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,don,t want to buy an ethernet modem ,,,,,if i do it could be cheaper in leccy than running a linux box

with USB SUPPORT ,,,,,ie modems ,

It has pppoe dialer and I am like 99% sure that it has support for usb modems. Good luck!!!

Now the big question is how to setup internet sharing once you get it running!
