File and Printer shareing

I am having some difficulty setting up a home network. I have a Netgear router. There are two machines on it, both running Windows XP Pro. I want to be able to print to a printer on the other machine, but both PC's can't even see each other in the network.

I have tried running the network wizard and then running the diskette it creates on the second PC, but that didn't seem to work.

I have a Cable modem with a netgear wireless router. Any idea's on what I am doing wrong? I know that the printer is shared and I enabled File and print sharing on both PC's.

OK, assuming that your internet works ok, its a question of permissions and xp's built in firewall.

First, make a login for each machine for each other, so if the two machines are Fred and George, then Fred needs an account setup on George with the same password as Fred uses to login to Fred. Same goes for George, it has to have an account on Fred, again with the same password that George uses to login to George... this way they both automatically login to each other.

The other thing to check is the ICF - the firewall that xp has. Right click on my network places, properties, right click on the local area connection, properties, last tab has the firewall.... you need to disable it for the machines to see each other.

The router should have a firewall - check to make sure... so the xp firewall isn't needed.

Finally, in printer, where the printer is attached, right click on the printer and select the sharing tab... it should have a hand underneath if you do it right.

Now on network places you should be able to see the other machine, double click it and you should see the printer. Double click the printer and the printer install wizard will start to allow the other machine to share it.

OK, lets call these computers A and B. A is the one that has the printer on it. B needs to print to it. I don't care for having A being able to get into PC B. All I want is for B to be able to print. When I make these other log in names, do I have to have both machines logged on to the same log in to be able to communicate. Like if each PC had user name A and user name B on it. Do they both have to be looged into A or both on B to print? I don't want to have to be switching users all the time just to print something.
