Please, help a desperate Brazilian guy

Guys, a friend of mine asked me to re-install his win98, before doing that I deleted the folders: File Programs and Windows, then I installed it, after that he remembered he had recorded some files in(on) desktop area, is it possible to retrieve those files ? What should I do ? Will Mrecover help me anyway ??? If you could help me, Thank you all.

Did you format the drive prior to re-installing Windows? If not, that improves your chances, but even if you did there is some hope. I'm at work right now, so I can not do a bunch of Google searches, but I think if you did a search on "undelete" you should find some useful utilities. The downside to this is many of the utilities you find will be crippled unless you pay for them. Usually the crippled version will only undelete files up to 64K.

Can anyone make a suggestion of something he can download that is not crippled?
