Where did you download the drivers from? What drivers were you after?

Where did you download the drivers from? What drivers were you after?

Using my physic tech powers I shall attempt to predict the meaning of the question ... :D

Found in Windows 9x machines, VMM32.vxd is the virtual device driver library that contains virtual device driver files needed for system start up. (Virtual eXtended Device)

VMM32.vxd is different for every machine; therefore, if it gets corrupted, it cannot be copied from another computer; it'll need to be rebuilt.

So my prediction is that 'Debs' had some other issue which resulted in either lost/missing/corrupt VMM32.vxd & went & got another & thats in german ! (or whatever the hell) & so is returning its errors in that language :)

My physic powers however aren't good enough to get the original fault :D

Dutch?

Dutch?

I think its all Greek to her anyway

So ... now I'm on a physic prediction roll :D ... so for my next trick, without reference to the original fault at all I shall predict the solution as an 'inplace re-install' of windows - so run an install over the top - should leave installed programmes 'ok' (most will be alright but some might need re-installing - generally most are ok on 9x), windows patches etc should be stored locally & a quick visit to windows update should put things back almost as original ...

Describing all the symptoms would be better whenever 'debs' gets back ... my predictions aren't infallable by any means :)

Make fun if you wish but yes it is Greek to me!! I downloaded the driver from DriverGuide.com and it said nothging about it being another language. Below I will try to type what it said,,

Det gar inte att Korg win ned den installerade md dos versionen
Upgradera ms dos till version 8.0 eller senare

There ya go,,now would it be possible to install winxp over my 98 with problems?? And if I can how am I going to get puter to pick up my cd-rom before it gets to this mess above..

Welcome to WinDrivers, Debs. If they like you here, they make fun of you... :)

Not really, but to help much with your problem, we would still need to know what driver was missing and which one you got from DriverGuide. Is confus-ed's guess right and you got a VMM32.VXD and put it onto the system? As already mentioned, that will really mess things up.

Installing an upgrade onto a system with problems is not a good idea, you're likely to just keep the problems in the new install. However an "over the top" re-install of Win98 could get things back to normal, and possibly save the other stuff already installed, ie programs may not have to be re-installed.

OK, then the best thing will be to follow confus-ed's advice, if you have the Win98 CD, run the setup again and re-install Windows. You asked how to get the system to read the CD, I take it this means you don't have a bootable floppy disk with the drivers for CD access?

Then not having the Win98 CD, you could try the upgrade, if it is unsatisfactory you won't be much worse off.

Do you have a new XP to use - remember it will have to be activated and a "borrowed" XP won't provide a legitimate installation?

Then I'm sorry, but unless your friend has ceased using their copy and transferred the licence to you, it won't be a legal installation. In that case I won't be able to offer you any help with that side of it.

No he's not saying that he's saying he doesn't want to help with any 'non legal' software ... take the advice given so far, its good even if you didn't 'get' my humour ;).

Sorry Deb, but the guys are right. If ya don't own it, nobody supports it. Do yourself and everyone else a favour, go buy a legit retail version. You will find that people will actually help you out when you have paid for something. ya might even want to inquire where you make your purchase how much it would cost to have them install it and set everything up properly for you. Some places may cut you a deal if you are buying the software from them. Until then, this thread is closed.
