Hi Favir,

And thanks for the favor. Welcome to Windrivers.

I don't have any direct experience with any of the free AV applications except AVG Free.

There are two important drawbacks that your review of AVG missed:

1) There is no way to set AVG Free to 'Auto-delete' infected files

2) Email scanner only works on Outlook Express or Pop-3 servers. It doesn't scan email of AOL, and I would assume, other ISP's that fall outside this category. Resident Shield DOES however, detect the infected file after it has been downloaded to your computer.

Also - The first and second sentences of this paragraph about AVG seem to contradict each other. I wonder if you might want to re-word them:

1-After selecting Move all to Virus Vault , it was discovered that there was some residue of infected files. This was discovered to be the files that were repaired by AVG. 2- In effect, when AVG detects an infected file and manages to repair it, the file will be left repaired on the drive without any indication that it was previously infected or had been repaired.

Thanks again for your links to other free AV apps. I'm sure we will make use of them...

Thanks for the reviews. I use avg at home for myself, and for the last 3 months it has worked fine. Does anyone have an opinion on avirt? better?
I sell my customers norton because I trust it but for myself I am willing to experiment a little.
