Hi All,

Wonder if anyone else is having this problem?

Have worked on 8 or 9 systems with Win98SE as the op sys. All machines have had Critical, Win98 and Driver updates done.

On startup some of the time all machines seem to hang at startup before desktop appears (mouse still working with hour glass).

Reset machines they startup after Scanning after bad shutdown.

Does anyone know why this is happennng and as I mentioned before only after updates have been done.

Looking forward to your answers.

Regards

Paul

My Win98Se machine hangs on startup, usually about 10-15 seconds with black screen, no hourglass, before going to desktop.

I thought it was because of Microsoft's patching.....

Looking forward to you response.

Orangeman,
Thanks for the timely responce. Don't know what is causing the prob. The systems I have actually boot to the green screen (default) but hangs with hour glass showing (something is loading) and pointer can move around the screen and it'll stay like this until reset button is pressed.

Paul

Star Fleet, if it's the same as I ask about here:

http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?t=18237

no-one knew for certain then, and I've never found out what does it...

Oranges machine is just having 'a think' ;)

But 'properly stopped' is usually bios issues - when its 'thinking' its trying to get all the IRQs & 'whatnot' sorted out ... bootlog.txt is often very illuminating ;)

Suggest you treat any 'patched up beast' as if it were a new build not wanting to post, so pull all the cards you can & get it booting 'correctly', then add back devices drivers etc ...
