I have installed windows nt on a stand alone pc so I can learn more about it. I don't know much about it yet. One problem I am having right now is that I don't know how to set up my dsl coonection on nt. Could someone either refer me to a web site that has step by step instructions or could someone give me instructions? Also does anyone know a good site that I could refer to with problems such as this one. Prferably a site for new nt users.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to Windrivers.

One way you might setup DSL on an NT system is to use raspppoe (http://raspppoe.com/READMENT.HTM) check out the installation instructions which are pretty well written.

this process assumes your DSL provider uses pppoe and you have a network card installed and working on the system.

a good site for FAQs about NT is www.ntfaq.com (http://www.ntfaq.com)

let us know how you make out.

Well, is your DSL using USB or Ethernet to wire up the PC? USB isn't supported in NT, and I doubt that your DSL provider offers usb drivers that will force NT to observe the modem. That said, you want Ethernet. Is the NIC in the PC setup correctly? You need the specific drivers for the NIC, and there ain't no Device manager in NT4, so again, it has to be done right, and only through the Network properties applet.

After that, TCP/IP as a protocol, using all dynamic type settings should get you in no problem.

For more specific instructions, check the ISP's support page, I am sure that they have instructions for NT...if not call them and see if they can help.

Actualy, with DSL, it's best to set the nic to static internal settings to speed up the boot process. The IP from the provider get's attached to the dial-up connectoid.
