Hi srinath, welcome to WinDrivers.
Can you give us a little more information about your setup and your interest in the status of ports? For example is it that you need to know if ports are open to access when you are on the internet? If this is your query, do you have any Firewall application installed, if so which one?
Sorry for so many questions, but your question is broad and if we can narrow it down we're better able to give you useful answers.

If you have no firewall all your ports are open hence the requirement to install one like Zonealarm which is freeware or use the XP built in item.
The mass mailers you are refering to are prompted by Trojan installs on a system which can come as mailing attachments or downloaded programs i.e. Kazza hence the need for an upto date antivirus too i.e. AVG [freeware].

Active Ports (http://download.com.com/3000-2085-10062969.html?part=65960%20&subj=dlpage&tag=button) can tell you what's happening on your TCP/IP connections.

If you have a broadband connection you might also want to look at a router that will do Nat which will give you some extra security.
