Win XP Error "xxxxx memory could not be written"

Hello i am quite a noob when it comes to computer problems. But i have been reciving this message all the time sayin

explorer.exe - application error "memory could not be written"

it gives me the option of cancel to debug or to click ok.

no matter what i click on my system crashes and all me programs shut down for a few seconds.

Does anyone have any soloution to solve this and please remember i am a novice so try explain basically

Welcome to windrivers djspitfire! This message generally results from a corrupted file reference. Clear your temp files (you can see where they are by going to system properties/advanced/environment variables - there will be different directories listed for the user and system) and internet cache, then run chkdsk /f.

Go to control panel. Double click "System". Select the advanced tab. Click the button labeled "Environment Variables". The top half of the window will give you the temp directory for user files. The bottom half will give you the temp directory for system files (you will have to scroll down the list).

The list gives you the locations of the temp files, make a note of them.

Then using explorer find those temp files, open them, click edit from the top menu, click select all, all the files will go blue. Now hit the delete button on your keyboard, click yes to delete them, then click yes to any further queries it makes about deleting certain types of files.

When you have found and deleted all the temp files, restart your computer using start, shutdown, click on restart and ok.

hi i have tryed to do what you have said and have deleted some files in the temp folders and some temp folders but i am still getting the error message :(
