XP Home to XP Pro

If I want to upgrade a laptop that came with XP Home to XP Professional, is there a simple upgrade path that would not requiring reinstalling all the software apps currently on the machines? I want to avoid doing that and changing all the existing settings on the machine.

They are Sony Laptops.

There is an xp pro upgrade. You should talk to sony to see if they provide an upgrade package.
