Here is my issue, my 2k3 server crashed and I had to rebuild.
My existing xp workstations (with all their setting) are intack!
Now I can see the domain, and join, but if I authenticate properly using the xp network identification wizard (in the system properties (computer name area))
I loose all the settings on the xp workstation, now is there a way to rejoin and keep the settings?

New domain controller = new sids. Everything tied to the old ones is gone.

You are going to be forced to create a new profile when you log into the "new" domain. As stated, the security identifiers for the users and for the PC's are not valid in the new domain, therefore you will need to re-add the PC's to the domain, and when you log in the profile will be new.
However...
In system properties on each of the XP PC's you can copy the profile you had before to the new profile that you are being forced into using by the new domain. You should add the PC to the new domain first, log in as the user for that PC, then reboot and log in as local administrator, or someone with administrator access, but not as either of the two users...Then in system properties, I forget which tab it is, but there is a button for user profiles under one of them, and you can copy from the old to the new. If you are using the same user name, some form of preliminary renaming of the old profile may be more prudent, because you will get a “username.000” profile folder, and some other strange things that are cumbersome, but as you play with this you will see what I am talking about, and devise your own best solution…
