thanks for the quick reply but the chat i'm referring to is winchat.exe i'm not sure if this is the messenger you're referring to :)

What windows? This is a very old app to allow chat across a lan.

Hmm more digging, while it appeared in win95 and NT, it is still available and ships with XP

Why do you want to kill it?
