windows media movie file image?

all my movie files are in a folder named 'my movies'

when opening that folder i set the 'view' option
as 'thumbnails'.
with this setting all i see in the thumbnail is
the 'windows media' logo & underneath the 'mvi' file
name. there is no image of the movie, thus making it hard
to 'see' what the movie is without actually opening the
file.
previously i was able to 'see' an image. a setting
somewhere has changed.

any ideas?

So welcome to windrivers forums Stuart P :).

Err so I'm not sure with this, but for a start in explorer you need the option set at 'view thumnails' (so you got that bit already ;)) - I also think that in 'performance options' (right click my computer choose properties, you get 'system properties' - on that click the tab 'advanced' & then click the button marked 'performance' {it actually says 'settings' - but they all do on that page - so the one for the 'performance' bit ;)}) then make sure you either tick 'adjust for best appearance' or make sure at least that the sub-option 'Animate windows when minimising & maximising' is ticked.

I turned up this semi-relevant quote whilst searching .. (which is no good to you but may be helpful to others searching later)
..For stability and performance reasons, Windows XP SP1 makes Thumbnails view unavailable for the following file types:
HTML documents (.htm and .html files)
XML documents (.xml files)
Internet e-mail messages (.eml files)
Internet news messages (.nws files)


Here's what Billy Boy has to say (somewhat unhelpfully I might add) To view files and folders as thumbnails (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/windows_fcab_thumbnail.mspx)

BUT .. in folders like 'my documents' if you have image stuff there, an extra option for 'filmstrip' pops up under 'view' - maybe thats what you wanted ?

However I've had issues with this before, having been through all of the above & the only fix I could find is the registry tweak (or use something like tweakui which can do this too) labelled 'restore thumnail views in xp' (17th down in the right hand column) here (http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm) - & a DANGER WILL ROBINSON moment - messing with your registry is never so smart an idea even when you are 'expert' at it, so I'll caution you to make backups {of your registry} before attempting ;)
