Hello guys..

Can anyone PLEASE help me understand the situation with my laptop display? I am not even sure if tis display or is it some sorta driver problem.. or some new incompatibility between hardware-softwares.. I'm totally lost.. :) Anyways, the problem is when I watch videos, the display shows some weird hhorizontal lines, green-pink-red and then everything becomes red-pink-green and then nothing can be seen on the monitor and the system crashes.. After that when I restart the laptop forcefullt if beeps loudly couple of times.. and does nothing.. after some attempts.. it starts as if nothing happened..

My laptop is HP Pavilion N5425
Video card is Trident Cyeberblade-XP

I tried to update the video driver but didnt have any new updates..

Also, sometimes the MPG or other video files would play sould but video does not appear.. after restarting it sometimes, not always, corrects this problem though.. I'm confused what to do.. Please help..

Thanks..

AJ

Welcome to Windrivers cinci

First up what are you using to play these videos?

Second, do you have ALL the windows updates?

Third, if you get sound and no picture, this usually means you are missing the correct codec.

try using this player. (http://www.videolan.org[/url)

Hello NooNoo..

Thanks for your response..
1)I use windows media player and I have all codecs too.. But when this problem occurs, no player can play even simple MPEG files.. I tried using WinAMP and other players.. thanks for suggesting a new player.. I will try it whenever the problem comes next time.. But when that problem comes, even my webcam doesnt show images.. So I think its video card or driver problem.. Also, these days whenever I wake my laptop from 'Standby' mode, it does not switch the display on.. and then the only option is to restart it forcefully.. Once this happens, it doesnt even go back in standby mode..

2) I have all updates on XP home edition.. I usually download the updates as soon as the icon pops up for it.. In fact, I think one of the updates have screwed up my system.. :).. Please comment if u have any suggestions..

Thanks..

AJ

The bios update can be dangerous if you lose power when updating. Do not attempt it using battery power. If your household power is prone to dips, brown outs and spikes, then get a UPS to handle the power for you.

The ibm drivers should work fine...if not, you can use the driver rollback facility in device manager (in the properties of the video card)

We ran into a similar problem with some Fujitsu laptops in our shop, after pushing out an update to Win2K from MS. These were Trident drivers, but the "fix", after discussions with MS and Fujitsu was to back-rev the video driver to an earlier version. Might be worth a try.
